Senior Director of Operations

Reporting directly to the GM onsite position, the Senior Director of Operations plays a pivotal role in the Grand Rapids facility’s success by spearheading strategy development, growth initiatives, and profitability targets. This role encompasses direct ownership of safety, quality, delivery, inventory, productivity, and lean objectives. The Senior Director of Operations will oversee Safety, Plant Management, Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain, Capital Equipment, Facilities Planning, Workforce Development, and Operations Strategy Deployment. The ideal candidate will establish robust operational processes, prioritize data-driven decision-making, foster continuous improvement, and empower teams to solve challenges effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive the business towards achieving or surpassing agreed growth, revenue, and operating income objectives.
  • Ensure products meet operational profitability targets.
  • Define strategic direction, performance metrics, standards, and measurements for both direct reports and the operation as a whole.
  • Set operational goals and guide teams towards meeting monthly, quarterly, and annual targets.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to manage the P&L effectively and consistently achieve revenue and margin commitments.
  • Provide leadership and support to supply chain, production planning, manufacturing, and continuous improvement teams by:
    • Supporting the sales & operations planning (S&OP) process to align manufacturing capacity with demand for efficient delivery.
    • Anticipating and responding to marketplace trends, implementing strategies to maintain cost and quality leadership.
    • Planning and executing a best-in-class supply chain to optimize inventory levels, turns, supplier quality, and cost.
    • Directing continuous improvement programs and supporting on-site initiatives to ensure successful program adoption and desired outcomes.
    • Ensuring timely product delivery to customers while meeting all quality and performance expectations.
    • Plan and implement capital improvements for the site and operations.
    • Collaborate proactively with functional counterparts to ensure overall organizational success and leadership continuity.
    • Cultivate a positive employee relations environment by fostering a culture of motivation and active engagement in driving continuous improvement.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and mentorship, offer feedback, and take corrective action as necessary to cultivate a high-performing department.
    • Exemplify the company’s ethics and values and uphold the highest corporate governance principles.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, operations management, or related field required.
  • MBA/master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or other operational leadership roles.
  • Experience in a build-to-order/high-mix manufacturing environment required.
  • Proven expertise in production/inventory control, procurement procedures, logistics, and strategic planning.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to develop long-term plans and execute actionable strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and drive accountability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
